Too early to snub Buchanan theory: SRK

Reacting strongly to Sunil Gavaskar’s critical comments on his team’s set up, Kolkata Knight Rider co-owner Shah Rukh Khan said he would run KKR the way he likes it.

I have great respect for Gavaskar. I have grown up enjoying his performance as well as GR Vishwanath and Kapil’s. We all respect him too much but, having said that, Twenty20 cricket is a new format and the last time we did not do well after going the traditional way (one captain),” he said.

“I think it’s a game which may be Gavaskar has not himself indulged in. But still I know his knowledge would be enough to make a comment on T20,” Shah Rukh added.

Gavaskar, in a newspaper column on Sunday, had criticised Buchanan’s theory, saying too much importance is being accorded to the Australian, who is a failed first-class cricketer and is only trying to get lucrative jobs for “his Queensland pals”.

SRK also pointed out that John Buchanan’s multiple-captain theory isn’t altogether new to cricket, saying that Kings XI Punjab had briefly experimented with the concept in the last IPL.
Shah Rukh also hoped his team would perform much better than last year. “ Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Ganguly, Brad Hodge, Ajantha Mendis, Ishant Sharma, Mashrafe Mortaza all are available and it’s a strong line-up. I hope the team performs better than last year,” he added.
